Missouri Association of REALTORS

REALTOR® Nationwide Open House

REALTOR® Nationwide Open House

What it is

Join thousands of REALTORS® around the nation and hold an open house on the weekend of April 10 and 11, 2010.

Encourage your buyers to visit and your sellers to participate. As an added touch you can identify the open house with REALTOR® balloons.

How is this weekend different than any other weekend in April? This is an incredible opportunity for consumers to shop for a new home while:

  • Affordability is good
  • Mortgage interest rates are low (but expected to rise)
  • Good supply of homes on the market
  • The Expanded First-time Homebuyer’s Federal Tax Credit is still available. The contract has to be in place by April 30, 2010.

Eventually, home prices and interest rates will climb, inventory will become scarce and the tax credit will be gone.

NAR will be helping with this event by:
  • Running a blurb in the April issue of REALTOR® Magazine
  • Developing a national press release which they will send out April 9
  • Promoting via their Facebook, Twitter, etc. accounts

Mid March: Send Media Advisory. Identify home where spokesperson will speak to the media. The property may be “decked out” for media (perhaps some balloon bouquets, signage, etc.) Should have a compelling story --- work with leadership to identify. Pitch specific sellers and agents to be available for interview.
Mid March: Post news story for membership to your publication and web site
Late March: Send Media Advisory again. Add more details where necessary.
Week of April 12: Send Press Release to media outlets as a follow-up to the event.

Free:

    • Contact local media
    • Send press releases
    • Pitch idea in-person or via release to managing brokers

    • Post promo materials on social networking sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter etc.
    • Place information/logo on your association web site home page
    • Distribute brochures for members to use at participating houses using Right Tools Right Now from Realtor.org. (Or encourage them to obtain them from the Right Tools Right Now site.)

Cost:
    • Buy balloons to give away to members to identify their open house as a REALTOR® open house
    • Media buy for public awareness, i.e., radio, outdoor, print, TV to promote the weekend. (Add component to your public awareness campaign, i.e., radio and print would be easiest to add or change tag line.)
    • Create a video to post on your web site and social networks
    • Host a contest for consumers to get their card stamped for every open house they attend for a chance to be put in a drawing. (Or if they attend x number of open houses that weekend they get a prize.)
